Have To Move? Where To Start?
You are all settled in your home. Everything is arranged just the way you like it and you’re very comfortable. Then - wham! Life happens and you have to move. It could be a change in jobs, family needs or financial situations. Whatever it is, it can be unsettling. Where do you start?
With lots of houses on the market now you’ll have to devise a plan to make your property a real standout. That calls for an aggressive plan that puts you in the driver’s seat. Call your real estate professional and explain the situation including your optimal time frame. Then grab the boxes and start packing.
Your home may have been perfect when you moved in but we all tend to leave telltale signs in any space we occupy. It might be a few handprints around light switches, a stain on the carpet we covered with a throw rug or piece of furniture or it could be something like a non-working burner on the stove or a leaky faucet. None of this will get you a buyer.
Even if your home was totally sparkling when you moved in, it is now time to deep clean and de-clutter to get that model appearance back into your home. Remove anything that personalizes your home such as a door knocker or a welcome mat with your name. Repair and replace applies even to items you might take with you. And consider repainting as a wise investment. Buyers want to know you are a caring home owner.
In conversation with your real estate professional, ask for an honest assessment of what steps you can further take. Keep in mind that the average person moves more often than you think and usually for reasons that have to do with life changes – just like you. Take this challenge and turn it into the best of opportunities.
